I think I’m quite ready for another adventure

This is not my car…. but it looks like it …. sort of …. this one is a lot cleaner and doesn’t have a scrape on the wheel and the quarter panel and a dent on the trunk ….

Barely a month ago I left for a two-week long excursion in England and Scotland, and today I leave on another adventure. This one’s a little different.

Firstly, I’m not leaving the country. But I am departing my beloved Midwest for the South, which is pretty much the same thing. 😉

Secondly, I won’t even be gone a week this time. Other scheduling concerns require that we be back in Wichita this coming weekend, so this will just be a quick jaunt to the other side of the country and back.

Thirdly … no planes. Just a car. And lots of highway and pretty scenery.

But one thing is the same. One of my compatriots is along for the ride–the Nomad! Actually, the Nomad is one of the reasons for the trip. She has a flight to catch out of Atlanta, so instead of having her find some overpriced flight from Wichita to Atlanta, I just figured I’d take her. I’ve been threatening to drop in on my friends in Atlanta for years, so it’s high time I made good on that. Plus, I have other friends in South Carolina I’ve been trying to get over to see, and it’s in the neighborhood.

But see, my brother, Sparky, found out that I was going…. Well, I told him. I tell him everything. And he decided he wanted to tag along, which I’m incredibly grateful for. He’s much more experienced in driving around in big cities, while I’m more comfortable with the long boring stretches of highway. We’ve tag-teamed on road trips before and always had a great time.

This is Sparky. Yes, he's wearing a fedora with shorts. Yes, he's wearing white socks. He's an engineer, and he can get away with it.

So as you’re reading this now, we’re on the road. We probably haven’t left Wichita yet. Swinging by to pick up the Nomad first, and then we’ll be on our way. Our first stop is Memphis, just for an overnight. Then it’s on to Atlanta Monday, where we’ll be able to hang out with one set of friends–the incredible Peter and Elena. Tuesday afternoon, after we drop the Nomad at the airport and I get a hold of myself and stop bawling, we’ll be on to Columbia, South Carolina to hang out with the second set of friends–the awesome Ethan and Charron.

Then Sparky and I will head back to Wichita Thursday morning and hopefully make it back into town Friday night. If we manage to make it by 7pm, we’ve got a wedding we’re going to try to hit.

Yes. We’re overachievers. But we come by it naturally.

I have my camera and will be taking lots of photos and probably some videos all the way, and I’m also bringing a notebook or two to keep track of the random things that happen. Because, trust me, random things always happen.
